Gosh where do I begin...
It took a good 2 months to come up with a proposal plan, which I wanted to be impactful and memorable for both of us. The proposal is usually a story that is brought up time and time again for the rest of our lives, so the pressure was on to make it big enough to last a lifetime.
I asked Megan’s friend Amanda to be part of a plan that would get Megan away from me for a couple of hours and it worked beautifully. So the ladies went out and got their nails done before going to a photo shoot at Washington Park. Amanda is a photographer and she needed Megan’s help with the lighting. So Megan thought…
For those who don't know Amanda, she is the type of person that would go the extra mile to help you in a time of need.
The proposal took place at Washington Park in Portland. I decided I wanted this big event to be on center stage, so I used the Rose Garden Amphitheater as the setting. I plucked 5 dozen roses and laid their petals out in a trail for Megan to follow, which would lead her to the stage. A chalk board sign was at the top of the amphitheater and in chalk it read, "Welcome to your Rose Ceremony." I was so excited and nervous that I completely set everything up 45 minutes prior to her arrival. During those 45 minute of waiting, my heart was beating out of my chest and a gallery of people started to congregate around the amphitheater in the park. The people saw what was happening so decided to stick around and watch the show. By the time she arrived, nearly 100 people were waiting for her to arrive.
For the stage and set up, I rented a bistro table and covered it with a black tablecloth. I placed 3 long stem roses in a separate vase for each. Each rose represented our past, present, and future. The future rose had the ring on the stem, which was the longest of the 3.
Once she said yes, everyone and I mean everyone in the amphitheater cheered and clapped for us. It's definitely a day to remember and a story to be passed on to our children and grandchildren.
